Join Duarte Rotary Club
In 1987 Women joined Rotary because on May 4, 1987, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Rotary International may not exclude women from membership based on gender. Hundreds of women across the United States were admitted to Rotary. The club that started the legal battle, the Rotary Club of Duarte, California, was reinstated after it's termination in 1978 for admitting women. The club could not call themselves a Rotary Club since their charter was revoked, so they called themselves the EX-Rotary Club of Duarte.
In 1989, the Council on Legislation voted to eliminate the requirement that club membership be limited to males, permitting clubs worldwide to admit women. Hence, this is how our club became "the mouse that roared"....our "little" club changed the way service organizations do business. Allowing women in the Duarte Rotary Club was an effort of the "little" seven-member club to increase membership, but it ended up being a civil rights issue.
We are known in the Rotary World as "the mouse that roared", the club that brought women in! As of this writing, our "little" club is now thirty-six members strong!

Let’s welcome our 2024-2025 incoming President Rosa Holguin.
She has been a resident of the city of Duarte since 1991, making that a long standing 35 years of being part of this community.
Rosa worked as a letter carrier in Woodland Hills and Calabasas for 7 years, then transitioned to management for over 30 years. In July of 2022, she retired after 37 years with the US Postal Service. A clear example of commitment.
With her retirement, Rosa is now able to use her skills and focus them in the community of Duarte. She also serves as the newly elected School Board member for the Duarte Unified School District, as of December 2022.
Rosa has served and volunteered in many organizations over the years. She has been on the ED foundation – Duarte Education Foundation since 2022, the Duarte CERT team for the past six years, President Elect for Duarte Rotary Club, and has enjoyed volunteering at City of Hope, Donor Center since January 2023.
She is a proud fur-parent to her 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a 75lbs tortoise named Tortie.
We are all excited to have Rosa serve as President of your Duarte Rotary Club for the 2024-2025 year!!
